MILITARY TRAINING IN THE BACK-COUNTRY
Sir,—lt is time something was done about military training for back-coun-try men, who have either been appealed. for or are over age. A great many are too far away from Home Guard units and consequently have had little or no military training. Camps should be organised in the back-country gorges and the men of each gorge trained in guerrilla tactics. A great deal of damage could be done to an invading force by a group of men who know the mountains as well as these men undoubtedly know them. Their knowledge of the passes would be invaluable, and they could be used as guides by the military authorities. I’m sure that, if these camps were organised, the back-country men would enter wholeheartedly into the scheme and co-operate to make such an arrangement possible.—Yours, etc.. NOWHERE.
