TOWN RETAKEN IN BURMA
British Success On Sittang River R.A.F. BOMBS ENEMY CONCENTRATIONS (Received March 16, 11 p.m.) (U.P.A.) LONDON, March 16. A delayed agency message from Mandalay says that British troops in the Sittang river area have recaptured Shwegyin, an important town on the east bank of the river, which was recently seized by the Japanese. Shwegyin is about 100 miles north of Rangoon. It had already been reported that operations In the Nyaunglebin - Shweg- _________ yin area were proceeding satisfactorily. A New Delhi message says that the Royal Air Force in Burma bombed lorries laden with Japanese troops near Kaukkyan, and bombed' and machine - gunned a concentration of enemy tanks with horse and mechanical transport at Mawbee, A bomber also attacked and sunk canoes full of troops, and effectively bombed groups of enemy soldiers on the MingaladonMawbee road. Mingaladon is about 10-miles north of Rangoon and Mawbee another 15 miles north of Mingaladon.
