ASHBURTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
SANDBAGS FOR HOSPITAL A request for assistance to obtain several thousand sandbags for the protection of vital departments at the Ashburton Public Hospital was contained in a letter from the Hospital Beard received at a meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council last evening. The Mayor (Dr. J. Connor) said the council did not have a great number of bags available, but it was agreed to give all help possible. The Ashburton County Council wrote that it had made a grant of £2O to the Ashburton Cemetery and of £23 to the funds of the Ashburton domain. The letter pointed out that there were 1£ domain^,and recreation reserves the people of the countyr’and these \vere used to a 'considerable extent by the residents of the borough. The trustees of the Ashburton racecourse reserve wrote about the allocation of the cost of installing the underground drainage at the Suggesting a conference with the racing club and trotting club and asking about the possible future of the course, the council agreed that the trustees should approach the Government about the matter.
