FUNERAL
♦ MAJOR B. T. WYN IRWIN Military honours were observed at the funeral on Saturday of Major B. T. Wyn Irwin, who died on Thursday, shortly after his return, invalided home, from two years’ service in the Middle East. The pall-bearers were provided by the Army Service Corps, and a party of majors acted as an escort. They were Majors H. E. W. Roberton, P. McCormack, A. R. Cockerell. D.5.0., A. Thomas, F. H. Mintrom. M.C., M.M., and D. S. Boyd Colonel Sir Hugh Acland. C.M.G.. C.8.E.. A.D.M.S.. represented the Army Medical Services, and Captain G. H. Anderson, District Headquarters. The cortege entered the grounds of the crematorium to the strains of pipers playing “The Flowers of the Forest.” The services were conducted by the Rev. Canon H. Williams. At the conclusion a salute was fired by a squad of the Army Service Corps. “Last Post” and “Reveille” were sounded by three buglers from Christ's College. In addition to many expressions of sympathy and floral tributes from relatives and friends, were those from the Hon. F. Jones (Minister for Defence), the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer (Minister for Health). Brigadier F. T. Bowerbank (Director-General of Medical Services). Dr. M, H. Watt (Direc-tor-General of Health), the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H. Andrews), the New Zealand Alpine Club, and the Canterbury Mountaineering Club.
