THE BAYONET
Sir,—The only adequate comment on the letter of your correspondent wm. L. Robertson on this point seems to be —tell that to Mussolini—or the Maoris. Major Wintringham’s military views are entitled to respect, but whatever his new book says of the bayonet is somewhat over-clouded bv its proved efficacy in four or five campaigns; and he himself would be the first to admit the importance of the mpral factor in war. Anyone who has listened to instruction in bayonet fighting knows the meaning of terror tactics As for the suggestion that Hereford street should be adorned with a tommy gun. any Home Guardsman knows the answer—but it can't be printed.— Yours, etc., R Q BA y ONN E.
