WORK BY W.W.S.A. MORE HELPERS WANTED “The making of the smaller type of camouflage nets is being undertaken in Christchurch by the Women’s War Service Auxiliary, and it is hoped that every women's organisation, even every individual woman, will assist in the making of these nets,” said Miss Mabel Howard, district chairwoman of the W.W.S.A.. last night. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES MOUNT NESSING A “babies’ day” was held by members of the Mount Ncssing Women's Institute, when christening robes, one more than 100 years old. were displayed. Miss Austin presided over a good attendance, and members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with the relatives of Mr T. D, Burnett whose death occurred recently. A letter of thanks was received from Strathoona Training Hostel for a donation. and an appeal for scrap metal was received from the Cantcrburv Reclamation Board, A request for cakes for soldiers’ parcels was received from Mrs Tweedy and it was decided to forward 12 cakes every three months. The garden thought for the month was given by Miss C. Irving, Four pullovers were completed for men of the Merchant Navy. It was decided to continue knitting khaki wool as soon as it was available. Mrs A. Collacott read an interesting letter from the Pentreath Institute, Isle of Anglesey. Miss Maureen Fraser sang two songs. The hostesses. Mrs Muir and Miss Collacott, were thanked by Miss K Fraser. Miss Irving had charge of the sales table and Miss Fraser was pianist. The wandering shilling competition was won by Miss NoeUne Glass, and the musical parcel competition was won by Miss K, Fraser. Results ol the competitions were as follows:Cabbage: Mrs Norton 1. Mrs Frasei 2. Mrs Glass 3; tango biscuits, Mrs Knubley 1. Mrs Muir 2, Mrs Glass 3; roses. Mrs I. Macaulay 1. Mrs Glass 2, Mrs Austin 3: champion bloom (single), Mrs Norton 1. Miss Austin 2. Mrs I, Macaulay 3; cluster, Mrs Muir 1, Mrs Glass 2. Miss K. Fraser 3. ORARI The annual picnic of the Orari Women's Institute was held in Mrs Macdonald's garden. The picnic to Waihi Gorge was abandoned this year, and members handed in the amount of their bus fare to helo the local Red Cross funds. Mcsdames Watson and Hallard arranged races and nut scrambles for the children. The married women's race was won by Mrs Leary and the single girls' race by Miss Molly Stewart.
