MARRIED MEN IN BALLOT
TO BE CALLED AS REQUIRED SUPPLY OF MANPOWER IN DIFFERENT DISTRICTS All married men in the Southern Military District whose names appear in the ballot next week will not be called immediately to enter camp. A Press Association telegram from Wellington printed yesterday morning saW married men without children called up in the ballot on January 20 would be posted to camp at once, if of th ' reauired standard of fitness. Commenting yesterday on tlvs slatoment. an officer at defence head- 1 Quarters said in the Southern Militn-v District this would not app’y. The length of time which elapsed between the time of being called in a ballot and the notification for posting for camp depended on the supply of manpower in the area, and what applied in the Central Military District did not necessarily apnly in other districts. The manpower situation varied in different areas. Having been called in the ballot, the men will be warned to report for medical examination, but notification of their posting to camp would depend on Army reauirements. Some men may be needed fairlv soon after their examination. but the majority would bo called up in batches at different dates. The date of their posting would give men plenty of time to settle domestic requirements, and they should not act hurriedlv in relinquishing their positions. sellin" their homes, and arranging their affairs.
