HEAVY ATTACKS LAUNCHED
CHINESE OFFENSIVE IN HONAN CITIES HELD BY ENEMY ASSAILED (Received January 14, 11 p.m.) CHUNGKING, January 13. The Chinese have launched a violent attack against the Japanese-held cities of Hwaiyang, Taikanghs, Chccheng, and Luye, in the Honan Province . The first push wiped cut several hundred Japanese north of Hwaiyang and further repulsed the Japanese forces in Anhwei Province. , . Reports from Chungking say tnat Inc Chinese attacks were especially heavy at Hwaiyang, where they have taken the outer wall of the city anc. urc now attacking the inner wall The Chinese intercepted and wiped out 8000 men of a Japanese column which was hastening from Yochow to the Milo river, in the Hunan Province, with a view to relieving their trapped comrades. , Many Japanese soldiers are weaimg bpical fur coats and fur caps, indicating that they have been withdrawn from Manchukuo. Fifty-nine British and Canadian officers and men under the guidance of Admiral Chan-chak have arrived 'at Shaokwan in Kwangtung Province after an adventurous escape from Hong Kong.
