MILITARY AGE NOT FACTOR
new manpower REGULATIONS PRIME MINISTER’S STATEMENT (PA.) WELLINGTON, January 14. The new regulations governing employment in essential industries or undertakings apply to all workers such industries, irrespective of whether they are of miliary age or not, the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) said to-day. “At this stage I have no specific comment to make on the latest amendments to the National Service Emergency Regulations," stated Mr • I Macdonald, secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, in an interview,, “Since mobilisation or the National Military Reserve and the Territorial Forces began in December essential production in hundreds of factories has been seriously hampered. However, as a result of representation made to the Government departments concerned, and through some of the powers given thp Minister for National Service, under the new regulations, it is hoped that order will soon be restored out of chaos, and the supply line so essential to modern warfare restored to full production." The executive would hold a special meeting this week to discuss the manpower with the Director oi National Service (Mr J. S. Hunter).
