Japanese Vessel Damaged

FOUR FIGHTERS DESTROYED

■ NEW YORK, December 16. There has been no fresh news of developments in the Philippines. American bombers have been active, and an enemy supply ship was seriously damaged off the south-east coast of Luzon. Four Japanese fighters were shot down. The Tokyo radio asserted that Japanese aeroplanes persistently bombed the Manila and Davao areas yesterday, destroying an aeroplane hangar at Manila and heavily damaging targets at Davao. It asserted that 25 American aeroplanes were shot down, rod 75 destroyed on the ground in an attack on the army’s largest airfield. The announcer denied reports that Formosa had been bombed. He said that not a single aeroplane had been over Japanese territory. Japanese Army Headquarters said that Formosa had its first air raid scare on Saturday night when 12 aeroplanes Were sighted off Takao, 450 miles north of the Philippines, but they veered off wt 'but approaching the city. ' '.LSte United Press reports that Filipino artillery on Tuesday repulsed invaders who drove in buses from northern Luzon, The authorities have not revealed the actual locality, but informed circles hint that it was on the north-west coast of Vigan and Aparri, where recently the Japanese landed unopposed.
