DUTCH MARITIME HIGH COURT
MEMBERS SWORN INTO OFFICE (8.0. W.) RUGBY, November 3. The members of the Netherlands Maritime High Court in the United Kingdom were sworn into office at tne Middlesex School, London, in the presence of the Lord Chancellor of England (Viscount Simon) and other leading personalities. This court was established by tru Netherlands Government under authority ot The Allied Powers’ Maritime Courts Act, and a similar Norwegian maritime court has already sat. The courts will follow the legal procedure of the respective Allied and administer their own national law. The administration of the Allied merchant fleets is in the hands of Allied agencies, and the control and discipline of their seamen is m the hands of the various national authorities. The jurisdiction of the new courts thus covers acts committed by nonBritish persons in Allied ships, and by crews of Allied ships. . , The courts are also authorised to . enforce mercantile marine conscription laws upon Allied seamen.
