Moloney, Of the Tuberculosis Dispensary, sympathising with her in her illness and ishing her a complete and speedy recovery. Mrs A. Hazleton (Cashmere) is spending a holiday at Queenstown and the Eglinton Valley. Miss Amy BOwker (Bealey avenue) is paying a visit to Dunedin. Mrs E. At a meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Woman’s Auxiliary of the British Sailors’ Society, held yesterday afternoon, Lady Acland, who presided in the absence of the president, Mrs H. T. J. Thacker, welcomed the Mayoress, Miss E. Couzins, to the meeting, and thanked her for her interest in the work of the society. While visiting his parents, when on leave from camp, Private Halsey Gallagher was the guest of honour at a large gathering, held in the Prebbleton Hall. He was presented with. a gift from the residents by the chairman, Mr J. Smith. Dancing was enjoyed during the evening to music played by Les. Kinsman’s Band. The women of St. Albans are invited to come to St. Albans School on Thursday, November 6, at 2.30 p.tn., when the emergency precautions cupboard, which has been equipped and Said for by them, will be, officially anded over by the Mayoress, Miss Couzins, to Mr C. D. W.L. Sheppard. St. Albans warden of the Emergency Precautions Scheme. . —6 The Christchurch Women’s Auxiliary of the British Sailors’ Society has, in recent months, sent to London three cases of woollen comforts for distribution among men of the Merchant Navy, and yesterday a letter was received by the local auxiliary from the secretary of the Ladies’ Guild in London gratefully acknowledging the receipt of the last consignment. Each consignment crntained about 300 knit-* ted garments and all have arrived safely at their; destination and were greatly appreciated. At the, meeting of the Christchurch Women’s Auxiliary, held yesterday, Mrs H. S. Vestey, who is ih charge of the knitting division, reported, that since March last year, £490 had been spent in wool and a total of 4724 articles had been, handed to the Seamen’s Institute in Lyttelton. Last month the following articles were handed over to the institute: 28 helmets, four pairs cuffs, 60 pairs mittens. 68 scarves, EjT fronts, 12. pairs sea-boot stockings, 13 pairs gloves, 29 pairs .socks, and 14 pullovers. ‘ The lady editor of “The Press” gratefully acknowledges receipt of £1 4s from the Monday Bridge Circle, three scarves and tins of food from a Rangiora friend, tins of toffee and food and a balaclava from an Oxford friend, for men on North Sea minesweepers; a parcel of books and other gifts from S. J. for the lepers at Makogai; a woman's black coat and scarf and a large parcel of children’s warm clothing from F.M. for the Lady Galway Guild; a jacket and skirt for refugees from an anonymous friend.
