MR HERBERT AND THE OXFORD GROUP

Sir, —I notice in this evening’s paper a Press Association telegram about Mr A. P. Herbert, M.P., and the Oxford Group. Your readers may know that Mr Herbert has consistently attacked the ‘Oxford Group for some years, and his attacks have been described in the House of Commons as “a matter of personal vendetta.” The work of the Oxford Group is known throughout the world, and particularly since war broke out, has its work been appreciated in England and America. Here is a recent cable from two American labour leaders, Mr George H. Harrison, vice-president of the American Federation of Labour, and Mr Frank Morrison, secretary and treasurer of the same federation; “Greetings irom your friends of the American Labour Movement who stand firm with British Labour jn your nation's time of trial. One of the greatest forces binding our country with yours in this grave hour is the devoted work of BrK tish Moral Re-Armament workers in America who are helping us to close our ranks and .have won the confidence and affection of responsible leaders of all our major uniors We feel confident that in the spirit of the historic Lend-Lease Bill just-emoted by our Congress, Britain in her turn will gladly allow us to retain the patriotic services of these gallant British fighters for freedom. “We are also confident that British Labour will use all its influence to see that the springs of national vitality this movement represents on both sides of the Atlantic are given free scope throughout your country, and that through the sacri-. ficial labours of your leaders of Moral ReArmament it may continue in unimpaired force ic strengthen your great democracy "s if Is strengthening ours.” —Ycurs, etc., FRANK COOK.
