MAGISTRATE’S COURT
* MONDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) THEFT OF OVERCOAT James Leon William Lewis pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing an overcoat valued at £6 10s, the property 6f. Horace Frederick Miller. He also ap. peared for sentence on a charge of stealing a pair of shoes valued at £2, - the property of Jock Smith. On the latter charge, he was convicted in July, 1940, and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within two years. Detective-Sergeant J. McClung said the overcoat had been taken from a dance hall. The accused had several times previously been ordered to come up for sentence. Lewis was sentenced to three months’, imprisonment on the first charge, and . convicted and discharged on the soc-’ ond ‘ REMANDED A man, whose name was ordered not to be published, was remanded to October 6 for medical examination, on a charge of attempting to commit suicide. MAINTENANCE CASES (Before Mr A. A. McLachlan, S.M.) For disobedience of a maintenance * order in respect of his wife. Percival Denis Mahoney was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on condition that he pays £5 forthwith and 2s 6d a weekoff arrears of £l7 11s. in addition to, current maintenance. For disobedience of an order in respect of his two; children, he was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the warrant to! be suspended so long as he pays 7s 6d a week off arrears of £8 17s inaddition to current maintenance. Trevor Owen was sentenced to sixf months’ imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order in respect of his illegitimate child, the warrant to be suspended so long as he pays Is a week off arrears of £3O 4s in addition
