PIONEER WOMEN’S MEMORIAL “Advice has been received from the Canterbury Women’s Memorial Committee intimating that the Minister for Crown Lands has approved of the Crown accepting the transfer to the council of the area on which the memorial to the pioneer women of Canterbury has been erected, the costs of the transfer from the late Mr J. F. Scott being met by the department,” the finance committee reported to the Christchurch City Council last evening. . . , "The Canterbury Women s Memorial Committee still has a few pounds in hand which it intends should be spent on beautifying the site with shrubs, etc., and the committee has authorised the superintendent of reserves to take this matter in hand.”

Members of the National Club' Social Committee have decided to organise a dance every month to entertain the men of the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram. and to raise funds for this purpose the committee held the first of a series of bridge parties in the National Club lounge yesterday afternoon.
