PUBLIC POUND

* CITY COUNCIL’S NEW FACILITIES A public pound is to be established by the Christchurch City Council on the Sandilands reserve, Linwood. This was decided by the council last evening on the recommendation of the reserves committee. Formerly the council leased a paddock from the Government for £1 a year, but this has now been taken into a Government housing subdivision. "This matter has been before the committee previously and has also been considered at a conference of local bodies. Nothing definite has been done in the matter,” the report of the committee stated. “It is recommended that a public pound be established on reserve 212, Linwood, bounded on the east by Kearney's road. The reserve is better known as Sandilands. To comply with the Poundage Act, the cost of erecting the necessary buildings and yards would probably involve an expenditure of approximately £IBO. It would also be necessary to appoint a poundkeeper. The sexton of Linwood Cemetery could act in this capacity.”
