N.Z. TROOPS PRAISED

LETTER FROIVJ REAR-ADMIRAL GLENNIE “The German is a beast, and should be eliminated,” writes Rear-Admiral I. G. Glennie in a letter received recently by the secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Navy League (Mr W. E. S. Purby). “Crete was a hectic affair, and the New Zealand troops emerge with very high marks, their discipline, morale, and fighting powers being grand. I managed to talk to a lot of them, and they were delighted to meet someone who knew their own country.” Before his promotion to commodore in command of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, Rear-Ad-miral Glennie was for some time in command of H.M.S. Achilles on the New Zealand station. The letter quoted was in reply to a message sent by the committee of the.league to convey appreciation of the wonderful work done by the force under the command of Rear-Admiral Glennie in so successfully tackling the German attempt to reinforce their air-bome troops in Crete from the sea. Rear-Admiral Glennie concludes by saying that he hopes to visit New Zealand again, his dreams of the trout being in direct contrast to the foul activities of the war.
