People’s right to choose own Doctor— restricted under State Medical Monopoly Scheme TVTEVER before in the history of New Zealand has legislation with ' such far-reaching effects on the lives of the whole community been forced through against the advice and offers of co-operation of those most concerned and best qualified to assist. Now, when 30% of the doctors of New Zealand are serving overseas in the cause of freedom, the government imposes a system of State serfdom on the Medical Profession in order to foist on to the people an untimely, unsound and ineffipient State Medical Monopoly Scheme. Regardless of this great injustice to the doctor who has been deprived of his right to earn his own living in his own way, and who is serving the community as a trusted, true servant of the people, ready to render aid by night and day, the people of New Zealand will be greatly restricted in their choice of a doctor—the immense increase in the work of the doctors would automatically lead to Zoning of the medical services, and the unwritten law that has endured for more than 2,000 years, respecting the secrecy of intimate discussion between patient and doctor will be destroyed overnight. LET A NON-POLITICAL COMMISSION DECIDE The Medical Profession asks that a non-political Commission of persons fully qualified to deal with the scientific, economic, financial and social questions involved be set up to inquire into the health services of New Zealand and submit a report on which sound legislation may be based and which would thoroughly safeguard the health of the people of New Zealand. Support the Medical Profession in their fight for Social Justice and a sound efficient Medical Service for the people! M Telegraph or write the Member of Parliament for your district voicing your strong protest against the State Medical Monopoly Scheme.
