PIGEON FLYING

OLD BIRD RACE FROM OAMARU The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club opened Its 1941 old-bird racing season with a race from Oamaru. Taking advantage of a following wind, the birds put up fast times. Mr K. Hartland’s bird, No. 608, was the winner, covering the distance of 133 miles 1705 yards in 3hr 28min 33sec. Results were as follows:—K. Hartland’s No 608, 1130.5 yds a minute; F. M. Brownie’s No. 263, 1130.3yd5; R. Lumber's No. 656, 1129 yds; E. Grimes's No. 567, 1128 yds; A. H. Stone’s No. 446, ,1127.8yd5; Harper ’Loft’s No. 613, 1127.6yd5; J. Howatson’s No. 498, 1126 yds; W. Unwin’s No, 496, 1123.5yd5; M. Robinson’s No. 796, 1123.1yd5; L, Pither’s No. 56, 1122 yds; A. Bailey’s No, 552, 1113 yds; J. E. V. Maxwell’s No. 214, 1106 yds; G. W. Robertson’s No, 25, 1104 yds; J. H. Peterson’s No. 760, 1086 yds; E. B. French’s No. 199, 1053 yds; L. Shield’s No. 695, 959 yds; W. S. Roberts’s No. 192, 853 yds. Nominated bird prizes were won by E. Grimes, R. Lumber, and F. M. Brownie.
