WOMEN’S CRICKET
MEETING OF CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION A successful season In 1940-41 was reported to the annual meeting of the Canterbury Women’s Cricket Association. Miss Agnes Scott presided. Ofiiecrs elected were:—Patroness, Mrs D. G. Sullivan; president and chairwoman, Miss A. Scott; vice-presidents, Mesdamcs Maginiss. Webster, Symons, Mulvson, \V. Machin. M. Bentley. V. Russell, Misses J Gray, M. Sissons, N. Thompson; secretary. Miss G. Goldsmith; treasurer, Mrs C” Cawtherav; competition committee. Misses J. Webster and P. Kilwortb; delegates to New Zealand Council, Misses A. Scott, J. Webster; executive, Misses J. Webster, J. Swanson. N. Forsyth, J. Wenborn, M. Marks, Z. Martin, Mesdames R. Martin. C. Cawlheray, N. Hawes, Miss A. Scott, and secretary. . It was decided to open tbe season with a friendly match on October 18, and that the first "competition match should he on November 1. It was agreed to Issue a challenge immediately to tiie Auckland Women’s Cricket Association for the Halliburton Johnson trophy lo be played, preferably, at Christmas. Tile following remits were presented and accepted:—"That in the event ot a junior representative team visiting Canterbury a special committee, consisting ot non-executive members, be appointed to help carry out arrangements for meals and entertainments, all such arrangements lb meet witli the approval of the association.” "That Hillsborough be permitted to play a match each week on its own ground, one week the senior team and the next week the junior.” A great shortage of umpires was expected tliis season and the secretary was asked to approach the Veterans' Association for assistance.
