——* — RUSSIANS RECAPTURE VILLAGES LONDON, September 28. The Russians recaptured 10 villages 50 mi&s south-east of Smolensk and have forced a crossing of the river Desna. Troops and tanks smashed through three lines of held fortifications and have pushed westward on a 10-mile front. Guerrillas operating behind the Rumanian and German lines in the Odessa region captured an ammunition train, burnt the rolling stock, and sent the engine crushing into the station. It wrecked a troop train, killing 750 oilicers and men. ANZACS FIGHTING IN GREECE LONDON, September 2d.
