FURNITURE STORE GUTTED
DAMAGE OF £3OOO IN INVERCARGILL (P.A.) INVERCARGILL. Sept. 27. A portion of the New Zealand Express Company’s two-storey brick building recently taken by H. and H ; Motors was gutted by fire this morning. Furniture stored on behalf of customers was destroyed as well as food products, disinfectants, tyres, and plywood held on consignment. The damage to these is estimated at £3OOO, The insurance on the building is held by the Royal Insurance office. Good work by the brigade stopped the flames spreading through the whole building, which has a frontage, of half a block. £>even trucks and two cars in the garage on the bottom floor were saved before the roof caved in.
