STRUGGLE WITH BURGLAR

HOUSEHOLDER STRUCK ON HEAD Further details of his struggle with a burglar on Thursday evening, briefly reported in “The Press” yesterday, were given yesterday morning by Mr T. W. R. Hitt, who was still a patient in the Christchurch Public Hospital. Mr Hitt, who lives at 45 Hagley street, Riccarton, has been living alone, as his wife, suffering from ill-health, recently went to Redcliffs for a holiday. On arriving home on Thursday evening and switching on a light he was confronted by a stranger. “What are you doing here?” asked Mr Hitt, and the intruder replied, “Just having a look around.” Suddenly he made a dash for the door. , . .. , . Mr Hitt, notwithstanding his slight physique, closed with the man and struggled with him until he received a heavy blow on the head. Mr Hitt eventually struggled to his feet and called the police by telephone. He was taken to the hospital by detectives. Mr Hitt’s condition is reported to be satisfactory.
