* TRUST AWAITS REPLY FROM . GOVERNMENT Until the Government replies to tin trust’s application for a grant for' re» pairs to protective works in the Ash* ley river, no further action will M taken in the matter by the Asm# River Trust. This decision was macw at a meeting of the trust in Rangiora last evening. It was stated that thl application was being considered, ana it was expected that a reply would be received soon. Mr A. M. Carpenter presided. ■ A decision made at a recent conference of local body representative* that the trust consider the purchase of sufficient plant to maintain the protective works was discussed, and it was agreed to hold over this resolution until the effects of the new Sou Conservation and River Control BiU were known.
