TRANSIT ACROSS IRAN IMPROVEMENT OF ROUTES PLANNED TEHERAN, September 24. British and Russian experts are hastening the organisation of transport of war material to Russia from Britain and the Empire across the Iranian railway. , , This railway has proved inadequate, and for this reason the line across Iraq will also be used. _ . The line across Iran from Bandar Shahpur to the Caspian Sea will be extended to Tabriz, to connect with the Russian Trans-Caucasian railway. Material from India and Australia is already traversing Iran, and some material, including British and American, is being landed at Basra. Considerable improvements will have to be made to the trans-Iranian line before it is capable of handling the increased traffic, and the port of Bandar Shahpur will have to be extended. Soldiers Fire on Workers. —The correspondent of the “New York Times” In Mexico City states that soldiers guarding the home of the President of Mexico, General Avila Camacho, fired on a crowd representing the Union of Munition Workers, killing eight and wounding 24.
