Legislative Council.—The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. and debated the second reading of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Bill. The Leader (the Hon. D. Wilson) outlined the provisions of the measure and said it was of the utmost importance to the future welfare of New Zealand. He said that there would be general agreement that something should be done to prevent soil erosion and to remedy some of the damage already done. Other speakers supported the measure and the second reading was carried. The Fair Rents Amendment Bill was read a first time and wilD'be dealt with to-morrow.—P.A.
