Conduct at Forts.—An assurance that the fullest investigations would be made was given by the Minister for Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) when replying in the House of Representatives yesterday to an urgent question by Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Opposition, Waitomo) whether the Minister’s attention had been drawn to serious charges made against a gunner at Fort Dorset recently. Mr Broadfoot asked if the Minister would institute inquiries into the control exercised at this and other forts in New Zealand, with a view to preventing such alleged conduct in future and said that parents throughout New Zealand were gravely disturbed at the happenings at Fort Dorset. The Minister said that police proceedings were taken as soon as one case was reported and similar action would be taken in any other case where evidence was forthcoming.—P.R.
