FAILURE TO REPORT TO ARMY
MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 21. Judgment was given in the Petone Magistrate’s Court to-day in a case heard a fortnight ago, in which Kenneth Aubrey Frank Mason, a member of the Watch Tower and Bible Tract Society, was charged with failing to report for military duty after his name had appeared in a Gazette. Mr A. M. Goulding, S-.M., said he had perused the regulation regarding members of this body, and it was clear that accused had allowed the period in which he could appeal to elapse. “I can see no reason to treat you differently from others who are avoiding their duty. The fact that you did not receive a registered latter calling Upon you to report is no excuse. You will be sentenced to a month’s Imprisonment with hard labour.”
