SMALL FARMS BILL
* PROTEST FROM LAW SOCIETY
(P.R.) WELLINGTON, August 20. An admission that he had received a resolution of protest forwarded to the Government by the council of the New Zealand Law Society regarding the passing of the Small Farms Amendment Act was made in the House today by the Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. W. Nash). Asked by Mr W. J. Poison (Opposition, Stratford) whether he would inform the House of the terms of the resolution, Mr Nash replied that there was no procedure under the rules of the House where the opinion of outside organisations on the acts of Parliament could be introduced, as was suggested. ' , “There is not. nor has there ever been any Intention of suppressing any evidence of value to the Dominion,” said Mr Nash, replying to Mr Poison’s suggestion' that he should . state the principles on which the suppression of important criticism was based. He was also asked whether it was intended to extend them to other than war subjects.
