PEDESTRIANS ON THE RIGHT
RESPONSIBILITY IN AN ACCIDENT
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION SEEKS INFORMATION
“In view of the broadcasting authorities having been so active in' their advocacy of pedestrians on country roads walking on the right against oncoming, traffic, what would be the position in law in case of an accident?" inquired Mr F. • W. Freeman at the meeting of the council of the Auto* mobile Association, Canterbury, last evening.
His inquiry, caused some discussion; in which Mr W. R. Carey pointed out that “unwritten laws"- had, no stand* ing in a court. Mr Freeman urged that the motor associations take the matter up with the authorities. In the event of an accident resulting in a heavy claim for damages the motorist’* position would be very doubtful. “Who would be to blame, the motorist or the pedestrian?” inquired a member.
Mr Freeman: You mean the motorist or the deceased.
It was decided to make inquiries from the Commissioner of Transport,
