CP.R.) WELLINGTON, August 20. ;A; net' profit of £25.027 from State coal mines is reported 1 in the annual balance-sheet presented to Parliament to-day by the Minister for Mines (the Hon.;, P/C. Webb). The Liverpool mihe contributed a profit of £4847, andfthe James mine, £3383; but the Strongman mine :showed, a loss of £2158. , Net surplus for the year Is - shown at. £717, £ 18,000 having been placed to taxation reserve,:and £6320 in sink- . tog fund. . From the Liverpool mine output for the: year was 166,528 tons, an increase of -14,593. tons, an additional 24 days being worked. Net returns to coal hewers averaged £2 Is 3d a day, an tojmease of 3a Bd, their daily output rising from eight tons 3cwt to eight tons Wcwt. 1 :. ■ production from the James mine was 22,036 tons, - a decrease of 1818-.' tons. Average daily earnings of coal hewers " dropped by Is:, to £1 ,8s 2d,; although them average butput rose by 6cwt ; to , six;tons BCwt.The' Strongman mine output waa.'77;862 tons, an increase of 34,025 tons.
