EQUAL ACCESS TO RESOURCES
MR BEVIN WELCOMES STATEMENT
CHURCHILL-ROOSEVELT DECLARATION
LONDON, August 18. The Minister for Labour (Mr Ernest Bevin) speaking at a trade union meeting said that he specially welcomed the fifth point of the Churchill-Roose-velt declaration. The fifth point indicates that every effort will be made to place all States on equal terms regarding accessibility of the economic resources of the world. Primary products, said Mr Bevinf would have greater importance, and all nations would have special access to supplies. . , . The United States, Russia, and China were going to play a more important role in world affairs, said Mr Bevin. Emphasising the necessity for the formation of a citizens' army and a democratic army for. home defence, Mr Bevin said that the Army must never be allowed to be destroyed as it was after 1918. Industry, said Mr Bevin, would never return to the old conditions. Picking up of labour and throwing it down again like an old cloak was inhuman, and he desired that opportunity should be provided for every man and woman to play a useful part'in Society. Control of prices, he said, should aim at getting correct distribution.
