Then as soon as the ra® was completed, it was announced fig* payment of the dividends had.iNfe held up because a protest lodged against Gay Parade gettfnf stake. It was alleged that he was ndt trained by his owners. Messrs Broad and Wilson, as stated in the race boot but by Mr F. T. Buchanan, who bred and formerly raced the horse. A statement was handed in by Messrs Broad and Wilson to the. effect that Mr Buchanan held a third interest in the horse, and that this was duly registered with the Racing Conference It was admitted that Mr Buchanan looked after the horse, but the other two owners made frequent visits to the tracks and to Mr Buchanan’s house, and the training was carried out as arranged between the three parties. The stewards thereupon decided to adjourn the hearing of the protest until 11 a.m. to-day m order that information" regarding the ownership of the horse could be obtained from the conference.

Attractive Juvenile Gunga Din created a good impression in his first public appearance on Saturday. He had no chance of overhauling Rebel Lady, but finished on gamely into second place. His two owners, the Hon. G. R. Hunter and the Hon. P. C. Webb, were present to see him race, and were naturally very pleased with his showing. They will shortly be placing into work a rising three-year-old half-brother by Irish Lancer to Cocksure, and one of the same age by Irish lancer from Gold Pit a sister to Coalpit, dam of Gunga Din, while a rising two-year-old Solicitor General from' Gold Pit has recently been handled on the owners stud farm off Burnside road. Likely Improver

Myraid also attracted notice by. his race in the Novice Stakes. He is. a good-looking three-year-old gelding by Myosotis from Miss Nightraid, and is owned by Mrs ,G. A. Edmonds and Mr R. P. Edmonds, of Wellington, and is trained at Riccarton by Mrs L. Campbell. He has not been hurried, and is one likely to earn distinction in the new term. Unlucky Owner Donadea had his seventh minor placing in a hurdle race this year, when he followed Fundy Bay home at Ashburton, and a win for his owner, Mr D. Withers, would be well received. Mr Withers had the misfortune on Saturday to lose The Sandwichman, who was having his first race over country, and was going well when he crashed, apparently through Waka running off in front of him. The Sandwichman would no doubt have escaped injury but for Panara jumping on top of him before he was able to regain his feet, and a broken hind leg resulted.
