A message received from London yesterday announced that a New Zealander, Squadron Leader P. A. Tipping, is to marry Miss Elizabeth Walsh, of Oxford.

Sister Kernohan, until recently Of the staff of the Hokianga Hospital, has arrived in Christchurch to continue hospital work. The first effort to raise money for patriotic purposes through the Mayoress’s Gold and Silver Fund in Wellington has now concluded, the result being that a total of £4lO 4s 3d has been received and paid into the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Fund. Almost all the articles given to the appeal have been sold. It is likely that a similar effort may t be made later.

Dr. A. L. Nannestad (who before her marriage was Dr. Hansen) has been appointed school medical officer in the Wanganui education district with headquarters in Palmerston North. The annual meeting of the Cashmere Garden Club was held at the home of Mrs N. A. Mitchell. fE was decided to send a donation of £1 Is to the Cashmere branch of the Lady Galway Guild. A social and dance was arranged by members of the dance committee of the Lincoln Patriotic Association, and held, in the Lincoln Public Hall. Music was played by Mr J. W. The fortnightly tea dance organised by the social committee of the National Club was held at the National Club rooms last night. Miss Norah Nutt was the hostess.

Miss Nancy Smith, who js to be married shortly, was guest of honour at a party given by Mr and Mrs Lockie Kennedy and held at their home in Kaikoura. Games and dancing were enjoyed by the guests.
