Mrs Jack Batchelor (Dunedin) arrived yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs Denis Johnston (Fendalton) who has been visiting her sister-in-law. Mrs J. A. Mullins. “The Cliffs," Timaru. has returned home. Mrs Charles Me Adam (Dunedin) is spending a fortnight in Christchurch. ’ Mrs Bruce Baxter (Timaru) is visiting Christchurch, * Mrs G. R. Mrs E. Wall (Papanui) left last night for a visit to Auckland. Members of the Christchurch branch of Columba College Old Girls’ Association held their annual reunion and dinner party, at the National Club on Wednesday night. Mrs R- de G. Robilliard, the president, who presided, was presented with a shoulder spray, and Miss Noeline Benjamin, the honorary secretary, received a posy, with the good wishes of the members. Later, all the guests attended a picture party. Hostess House at Papakura has become so popular that it is now hardly large enough to accommodate all the soldiers’ wives who wish to stay there. Last week-end the full complement of 20 was in residence and others wishing to stay could not be admitted. The Women’s Division of tpe Farmers’ Union will hold its Provincial Executive meeting in Beath’s Tudor room, on Wednesday, June 25, at 10.15 a.m. — 1

Mrs Arthur Elworthy (Holme Station Timaru), who has been visiting her daughter Mrs Derrick.Gould, Fendalton returned home yesterday. Miss E. Tennent, Commander-in-Chief of the New Zealand Voluntary Aid Detachments, arrived in Christ:hurch from the south yesterday, and is the guest of Archbishop and Miss West-W -tson, Bishopscourt. Miss Ten-’ nent, will visit Hokitika on June 26.

Madame Simone Mathieu, the former tennis champion, now Lieutenant Mathieu, is in charge of the Corps Feminin, the Free French Movement. These volunteers are trained in the south of England.

The “Pink Circle" in Sumner, directed by Mrs L. P. Longuet, held an Interesting display ol its work yesterday. The circle has been working for one month only, but it has now ready for use, cot covers, babies’ outfits. Bleeping bags, children’s socks and stockings, pixie caps, rompers, gloves, frocks, nightgowns, with jackets tp match and soft toys. At the first qpportunity these useful and attractive comforts will be sent overseas for distribution among families in distressed areas.

In commemoration of the self-sacri-ficing services of Miss M. J. Luckie during the Great War, the Hastings Returned Soldiers’ Association is to install a garden seat in the grounds of the Hastings Memorial Hospital. The monthly meeting of the Christchurch Townswomen’s Guild was held with. Mrs Wilson presiding. The Mayoress, Miss E. Couzins, was'welcomed as i patroness, Other guests of honour were Miss McLean, a councillor. Mrs Macfarlane, and Mrs Feast. Hodson, who is in charge of Air Force Relations in Christchurch, is finding that, with the onset ,of cold weather, woollen comforts for airmen are in great demand. At present she has no wool for distribution, but sev--eral hundreds of pounds of wool are distributed amongst knitters in Canterbury and to these she appeals most urgently. She will be very grateful if they will send the finished garments to headquarters, corner of High and Lichfield streets, as soon as possible, as the need for them is pressing.
