At the annual meeting of the Cheviot County Council" held hdlore the monthly meeting, Cr. J. Paton was reelected chairman, and Cr. D. McLaren deputy-chairmam. Several councillors expressed their appreciation of Cr, Paton’s chairmanship during the last year. The chairman extended a welcome to Cr. R, G. Anderson as a new member, and also moved a' resolution of appreciation of Cr. M. G. Hyde's services to the council during hts term of office, . . A deputation .consisting ■ of Messrs McDonald, Sloss, Fitzpatrick and MeFarlane, asked that a bridge be built over the Leamington river to give access to light-traffic, After a discussion the chairman explained the difficulty which had arisen in regard to the building of the bridge under the bridges, and culverts loan. The deputation was advised that the . council would give the matter every consideration. It was decided tp support the resolution of the Lake County Council advocating the abolition of the 40-hour week.

Accounts amounting to £1652 11s 8d were approved for payment, ,It was agreed,to make arrangements with the. McKenzie Domain Board to obtain permission to use the town hall in the case of emergency;
