Percy Lea Edmonds; a labourer, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence If called on in 12 months on a charge of stealing a quantity of bottles valued at 4s, the property of Patrick Goulding. A condition of the suspended sentence was that he should stay out of Christchurch. On a further charge of breaking af prohibition order, he was convicted and ordered to pay Detective-Sergeant J. McClung said that Edmonds had 52 previous convictions, all of them for drunkenness or traceable to drink. He was a war pensioner and it was difficult to know what to do with him. He was not a criminal. STOLE SUIT-LENGTH John Milne, another labourer, was sentenced to imprisonment for two months for stealing a suit-length valued at £1 18s, the property of McDonald's Cash Tailoring Company. De-tective-Sergeant McClung said that this man ajso had a long list, traceable to drink. Milne said that through war injuries he went "silly in the head when he had drinfe." TRAFFIC CASES The'following penalties were imposed in traffic cases, brought by, the Christchurch City Council:—Speeding: Henry E. Beckett, 20s; William Buckley, costs only; Frederick T. Spence, 20s (no warrant of fitness, costs only); George Hanschild, 20s. No warrant of fitness: Frank J.:Glanville, costs only; William Thomas Lowe, costs only; Edward O'Donnell costs only. No driver's licence: Eric Martin Holm, ss. Inconsiderate driving: George Terence Mather, costs only. Cycling with no hands on handlebars: George Patterson, 10s. ,
