Directors of the New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd., at a meeting held in Christchurch yesterday, elected Sir Robert Anderson, C.M.G., of Invercargill, as chairman of the New Zealand board of the company} vice the late Mr George’ Gould, who had held the position of chairman since January, 1923. ■ The vacancy on the board was filled by the appointment of Mr T. J. Maling, of Christchurch. Mr J. S. Prentice, who has been district manager. of the Government Life Insurance Office for the last five and a half years, has been appointed district manager of the Auckland branch to take the place of Mr G. L. Osborne, who has retired after 40 years’ service with the department. Mr Osborne joined the service in in 1901, and was later stationed at Greymouth, Invercargill, and Wellington before going to Auckland. Sir Evelyn Wrench, founder of the Overseas League, the English-speaking Union, and the All Peoples’ Association, arrived in Auckland by the Mariposa this week, accompanied by Lady Wrench; They propose spending a month in the Dominion before visiting Australia and India. Sir Evelyn Wrench, who will give a series of, lectures and broadcasts on the Eng-lish-speaking Union, founded and edits “Overseas,” the monthly journal of the Overseas League, and has published several books. He is an honorary LL.D. of St. Andrews University. Mr T. M. Charters was re-elected chairman of the Christchurch Fire Board at the board’s meeting last evening. Mr K. W. Robinson was appointed deputy-chairman. The chairman and ; deputy-chairman and Mr W. P. Glue were appointed ah executive committee. The Fire Controller, Mr R.
