SICK AND WOUNDED FUND
STATEMENT OF RECEIPTS AND PAYMENTS The statement of receipts and payments of the Sick and Wounded Fund from October 1, 1940, to May 31, 1941, shows that general donations amounted to £20,722, London Distress Fund to £59,900, and interest £4833, the total receipts being £89,622. Payments comprised the following Items:—Sick and wounded, £12,875; grants—-Order of St. John and New Zealand Red Cross, £15,500; relief of distress in Malta, £1000; Polish Relief Fund in England, £12,500; Red Cross organisations overseas, £3126; investments— Treasury bills, £5000; National Patriotic Fund Board—administration expenses, half-share, £238, leaving a balance of £39,382 for the period. Assets were shown as follows; —Bank deposits, £60,000; Treasury bills, £360,000. Contingency funds (Egypt, October 1, 1940), £5742; England (October 1, 1940), £12,450. Details of the statement show that grants to New Zealand welfare organisations were: Catholic War Service Fund, £8644; Church of England Military Affairs Committee, £16,959; Navy League War Council, £519 5s 9d; Salvation Army War Service Fund, £15,768 12s lOd; Young Men’s Christian Association War Service Fund, £56,246 0s 6d; Lady Galway’s Patriotic Guild,' £534 7s Id. Comforts for troops.—Convoys for transports, £IOO 3s; troops on transports, £2945 6s 3d; troops overseas, £8647 4s 8d; troops in New Zealand, £2956 Is lid; regimental funds provided, £567; military bands equipment, £1741 18s 8d; library service for troops, £222 13s lid; grants for rehabilitation, £352 0s 6d. Comforts for overseas seamen, £857 8s lid.
