__— * ' .• SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION LIKELY * SMALLER DEFICIENCY EXPECTED 'x A substantial reduction in the Christchurch Tramway Board’s rate is expected this year. Local bodies have been notified to this effect by the board, which states that whereas last rate produced £28,000, the necessary rate for the coming year will be only about £20,000, The rate for each of the last two years has been three-sixteenths of a penny in the £ on the capital value of the Christchurch tramway district, and this has produced about £28,000, the amount necessary to make up the deficiency on the Year’s working of the board. The estimates for the coming year, budgeting for a deficiency of about £20,000, will, it is understood, be considered at the rtext meeting of the board.
