SINGLE MEN AND WAR SERVICE
♦ APPEALS TO BE REVIEWED A drastic combing out of the ranks of single men whose appeals against service have been adjourned sine die by the Armed Forces Appeal Board is soon to be made, before a fresh start is taken with the calling up of married men. This was indicated by the chairman of the local board (Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) in a statement at the start of yesterday’s proceedings. Adjournment sine die could not be looked on as an indefinite postponement, Mr Reid said. Married men were to be called up and the appeals for single men would be reviewed. Where adjournments had been, granted sine die. the parties must, not sit back for one moment in the belief that the services of single men at home could be retained indefinitely. In three or four months there would be a considerable “tightening-up” went on Mr Reid and men would be taken gfhe were not being talcaa aosfc .
