Dr. Evan Denham, son of Dr. H. G. Denham, Rector of Canterbury University College, has passed his final section for a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, according to a cablegram received yesterday. Mr W. Bottrell has been appointed chairman of the" supply committee of the Christchurch Emergency Precautions Scheme in place of Mr T, Nuttall, who has resigned. 'The temporary appointment of Mr F. J. Page to carry on Dr. J. C. Bradshaw’s classes m music at Canterbury University College for the second and third terms was approved by the college council at its meeting yesterday. Mr R. D. Leighton, who has been employed by the State Forest Service for some years, was appointed by the Selwyn Plantation Board yesterday as its assistant-forester.. Dr. J. Eight was reappointed representative of the college council on the Students’ Union Council by the Canterbury University College Council at its meeting yesterday. Regret at the death of Messrs B. K. S. Lawrence and R.. M. Laing, who were masters for many years on the staff of the Christchurch Boys’ High SchooJ, was expressed by the Canterbury University College Council at its meeting yesterday. Mr D, W. Russell, president of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association, and Mr C. Miln, vice-president, will leave for Wellington to-night to attend the Dominion Association’s conference. Mr E. F. Willcox (Christchurch secretary), left for the north last night. Mr T. H. Langford, No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority, will leave for Wellington tomorrow night to attend a conference of licensing authorities in the north.
Appreciation of the work done by Mr W. Balch was expressed at the final meeting for the year held by the Canterbury Horticultural Society last night. After a period of more than 20 years on the committee, during which he has held various offices, including that of chairman and vice-chairman; Mr Balch has decided to retire from the committee.
