ENEMY CONVOY ATTACKED
MERCHANTMAN SUNK (Received May 15, 11 p.m.) LONDON, May 15. A successful attack was made by aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm on a south-bound enemy convoy in the Mediterranean on Monday. This is announced in a communique from Royal Air Force Headquarters in the Middle East, which says that a merchantman of • 8000 tons and a destroyer were hit. The merchantman blew up with a terrific explosion. The destroyer was last seen with a cloud of smoke coming from it; Pilots confirm that this was not a smoke-screen.
