THE NAVY LEAGUE

WOMEN’S AUXILIARY Mrs H. Wyatt, president, presided at the annual meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Navy League, held at the Builders’ Chambers yesterday afternoon.' There was a good attendance. The annual report, extracts of which have been published in “The Press” and the balance-sheet, whichshowed a substantial credit balance, were adopted. Mrs Wyatt read letters from men on active service in the North Sea, on New Zealand minesweepers and others, expressing deep appreciation of gifts of woollen comforts and also for gramophones and cakes. Sea-boot stockings made by Geraldine war workers, who spin and card their own wool, and minesweeper gloves made from macram6 bags were exhibited. A letter was read from the Auckland branch of the league asking-help to meet a call from the naval base, through the Naval and Merchant Navy Patriotic Sub-committee, asking tor 100 scarves, 100 balaclavas, 100 pairs socks, 100 pairs mittens, 100 pullovers, and 100 pairs of sea-boot stockings. All but the sea-boot stockings must be navy blue. Mrs , Wyatt .said that as a case of woollen comforts had just been sent overseas, and as there was great scarcity of navy wool, it would be impossible to meet the appeal in full, but some comforts would be sent this Week. After the business meeting piano duets were played by Miss Merle Cunningham and Mrs Colin Lamb and songs were sung by Mrs Lamb, with Miss Cunningham as accompanist. Tea was served by the committee. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Velma Mary, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs W W. Redded iff e. Hororata, to Robert Henry, elder son of Mr and Mrs H Ballagh, Hororata. HOSPITAL VISITORS’ ASSOCIATION At the monthly meeting of the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association ■ Mrs B. G. Hogg presiding, if was reported by Miss L. Bowen that eight patients had been granted a week at Rhodes Convalescent Home and three patients had been granted two «weeks at the home. Mrs S. H. Stewart said that nurses had been in residence at the nurses’ cottage at Sumner, where everything was in good order, and Mrs Percy Cox said that the work of renovating and covering books in the library ;bad been ‘continued, and gifts of books and magazines had been gratefully received from the Canter? Bury Public library, the Victoria League, St. Albans Recreation Club, Mrs Walker, Mrs W. Brown, Mrs Norton Francis. Mrs :I. Sewell Mrs E. W. Hnsell. and Miss M. E, Kincaid. Miss M. Lance reported that severai patients at the hospital were doing occupational .worki and she was now ■going all day on Thursdays to hold classes at the BurwOod Hospital, i .Accounts amounting' to' £27 2s 3d were passed for payment.
