PUBLIC NOTICE. MANUFACTURE FOR SALE OF ASBESTOS-CEMENT PRODUCTS. A N Application lias been received from H. LUKE, 328 Larnbton quay, Wellington, on behalf of DOMINION ASBESTOS PRODUCTS, LTD,, for a licence to commence to carry on the above industry. _ Any person who considers he ' will be materially affected by the decision of the Bureau of Industry on this application, and who wishes to make representations accordingly,' must furnish them in writing not later than 15th May, 1941, to G. Gazette dated 1/5/41, pursuant to the Emergency Reserve Corps Regulations, 1940, Amendment No. 1, ALL PERSONS HAVING IN THEIR POSSESSION .303 RIFLES OF ANY MAKE. DESIGN, OR PATTERN, WHETHER SERVICEABLE OR UNSERVICEABLE AND WHETHER OWNED BY THEM OR BY SOME OTHER PERSON; are required to give up possession of such* Rifles to the Government on, loan for Home Defence purposes on or before the 15th day of MAY, 1941. Each rifle will be held on loan and will be returned in good order and condition or will be replaced by one of similar pattern and of equivalent value as soon as possible aftej the emergency ends. Compensation will be paid for any deterioration in the condition of the rifle during the period it is held by the Government. Any person may be granted leave to retain his rifle until further notice it it can be shown to the Minister’s satisfaction that it is urgently required. For example, a farmer or other owner who is unable to join the Home Guard may apply to retain his rifle to destroy deer or pigs. which, if allowed to go uncontrolled, might seriously affect the productive' capacity of the land. ’ It is particularly desired that no person should suffer personal loss or undue hardship by reason of the temporary loss of possession of his rifle, and any applications for retention on these grounds will receive careful investigation and consideration by qualified Departmental Officers. In the case of applications by farmers, arrangements have been made for Field officers either of the Lands and Survey Department, the _ Department of Agriculture, the Native Depart-, ment, or the State Advances Departi ment to personally investigate and report on each application. Rifles in the possession of active members o’f the Home Guard will be formally taken over in accordance with instructions issued to Unit Commanders, but members may, if they so desire, be allowed to retain possession so long as they are taking an active part in the movement. All persons concerned are therefore hereby notified that on or before the 15th day of MAY, 1941, they are required to either:

(1) Hand in the rifle or rifles in their possession to the nearest Police Station, if they have not already done so; or (2) Lodge with the nearest Police Officer a written application for leave to retain possession; or (3) Notify the Police Officer that they are active members of the Home Guard and desire to have the exclusive use of their rifles. (4) If the rifle is not now in the original owner’s possession, he should notify the local Police Officer of' the name and address of the person to whom he has either transferred or loaned it. If any person has in his possession any .303 rifle parts, such as barrels or other accessories, they should also be handed in.—J. S. Entrance to the wards will be-supervised by Nurses,. whose duty it will -be to ensure that not more than two visitors are admitted to any patient at one time. Visiting Hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, 7 p.m. to 7.45 p,m, Wednesdays, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Children’s Ward: Sundays only, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. 1. Children under 12 years of age, except babes in arms, will not be admitted. 2. Patients' on the seriously or dan- . gerously ill list* may be visited at any time, and by children under 12 years of age. 3. Visitors bringing , parcels for patients must leave them, with the Sister in charge of the ward, and ensure that they are labelled with the patient’s name. The introduction of alcoholic liquors is strictly prohibited. ■ 4. Visitors are not permitted to visit patients suffering from infectious diseases; and, when medical opinion considers visiting is detrimental to the patient, permission to visit will not be granted.

The co-operation of the public is earnestly requested in this matter, and it is hoped that nearest relatives and genuine* friends only will avail themselves of the greater facilities extended to them. The public must obviously be aware that visitors interfere with and hojd up ordinary routine hospital procedures, and the continuance of the new system, which admittedly is experimental, but is considered less irritating to visitors, will be determined by the public reaction.
