At a recent meeting at Knutsford Park a horse was disqualified for Interference. “This,” says a local writer, "was the cause of a most deplorable incident. The sanctity of the stewards' box was forcibly invaded by two men, who, in full view of the crowded stands, proceeded to beat up two of the stewards and the clerk of the course. Both were removed by the police, but the occurrence, which is without precedent in the annals of racing in this country, cast a gloom over the rest of the day’s proceedings.”
