ENEMY RAIDS NOT HEAVY
MAIN NIGHT ATTACK ON MERSEYSIDE
LONDON, May 2. One enemy bomber was destroyed over Britain last night. The attack was directed chiefly against the Merseyside, but the raid there was notf heavy and did not last long. Some damage was done, but it is believed f that the casualties were few. In other districts the damage was very small and the casualties were few. The enemy operated in small forces over a wide area. An official communique says; “Enemy ; activity over this country during day- 1 light on Thursday has been on a very small scale, Bozgbs were dropped < at one. point on the south coast, causing no damage and a very small number ; The German bomber shot down last night was hit by anti-aircraft fire and was seen to fall in flames. At every point the raiders met intense fire from the ground, ■ Buses and other vehicles crammed with women, children, men, bedding, and household goods,*:-poured out o£ Plymouth after the fifth air raid in < nine days. Large crowds jostled at bus stations, where extra vehicles Urere provided. Busloads of passengers in some instances were put off at villages.
