THE GENERAL RESERVE

MARRIED MEN TO ENROL SECOND DIVISION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 1. The enrolment of the second division under the National Service Emergency Regulations is expected to take place towards the end of May, according to a statement .by the Minister for National Service (the Hon. R. Semple) to-day. “Due notice will be given,” said Mr Semple, "when married men are required to enrol and it will then be necessary for every man of the second division to fill in an enrolment form regardless of whether he registered for social security purposes.” The Minister also referred to the fact that many men were under the impression that provided they, registered for social security purposes and were in possession of a levy book they were automatically registered under the National Service Emergency Regulations. Some confusion had probably arisen, said Mr Semple, through the fact that when the regulations were first brought into operation last June, social security registration forms were used as a basis for compiling the initial ballot register which consisted of men of the first division omy. This was adopted only as a matter of expediency and all subsequent enrolments were required to be furnished on Form N.S.I available at all post offices. At present only members of the first division were enrolled and if a member of . that division did not possess an enrolment. certificate the onus was on him to remedy the defect.
