CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATION CANDIDATES Citizens’ Association candidates for the municipal elections were announced by Mr M. E. Lyons, chairman of the executive, at a luncheon of the women’s branch of the association at-. Heath’s yesterday. Mrs G. H. Watts presided. The list of candidates is as follows: Mayoralty—Mr E. H. Andrews. City Council—Messrs R. G: Brown, J. N. Clarke, J. J. Hurley," G.’ D. Griffiths. W. P. Glue, W. 6. Fernie, M. Kershaw, M. E. Lyons, S:,J. Maddren, Major T. Mllliken, Messrs C. D. Sheppard, F. Whiley, F. S. Wilding, and Miss Mary McLean. North Canierbusy Hospital BoardSir Hugh Adand, Mesdarhes W. S. Bean, J. N. Clarke, W. Mackay, Miss Mary McLean, Messrs F. W. Freeman, J. J. Hurley, D. Bowse. A. J. Scolt, and W. P. Spencer. Christchurch Tramway Board— Messrs C. H, Clibborn, H. Kitson, C. G. McKellar, W, S. Mac Gibbon, and W. Machin. . - Walmakariri River Trust—Messrs C. T., Aschman, H. B. Anderson, F. W. Freeman, and G. Gould. , Lyttelton Harbour Board—Messrs W. S. Mac Gibbon, F. W. Freeman, and J. E. Tait. One more candidate for the Tramway Board has yet to be announced. The candidates who spoke at the luncheon were;— Mrs W. Mackay and Mrs W. S. Bean (Hospital Board), Messrs W. P. Glue (City Council), J. N. Clarke (City Council), and E. H. Andrews (Mayoralty). Miss E. Couzins, who will act as Mayoress if Mr Andrews is elected, also spoke.

FIFTEEN LABOUR CANDIDATES

MAJOR MILLIKEN NOT TO BE OPPOSED

A decision to nominate only 15 candidates for the 16 seats on the Christchurch City Council, thus presenting no opposition, to Major T. Milliken, who is serving overseas, was made by the Christchurch Labour Representation: Committee last night. Mr T., Martin, secretary of the Seamen’s Union, was selected to replace Mr J. D. Carey on the list of council nominees.. Mr G. W. Dell, secretary of the committee, said Mr Carey had resigned for health reasons. The Labour Party has selected the Rev. W. R. Martin as its candidate for the. Riccarton-Lyttelton-Sumner seat bh the North Canterbury Hospital Board. His nominators were two Lyttelton doctors, Dr. C, H. Upham and Dr. ;B, H. Gilmour,

COMMUNIST CANDIDATE OPENS CAMPAIGN

The : sole Communist ’ candidate in the City Council election, Mr J. Locke, opened his campaign in Sydenham Park last evening, when he addressed an audience of about 40. Mr Locke said that May Dzy had been chosen by his party for the opening of the campaign.
