BALAKCE-SttEET ADOPTED Street widening as a result of recent subdivisions was reported at the Ak«roa Borough Council meeting on wed* nesday evening. Benoit street will be widened to 40 feet, and fhi corner at the Junction with Lavaud street round* ed on to give traffic a better view, A corner in smith street and one in Percy street will also be roUnded on* On the suggestion of. Mr J, ]U Davis, surveyor, the council decided to take steps to acquire the additional road* way in Benoit street and to dedicate Percy street as a street, as it has not previously been dedicated, and make it a legal roadi The council was advised that the width of Percy street need not be specified at present. A petition was received from 40 ratepayers praying that a poll Should bo taken at the same time as the borough election on a proposal to rate in the borough on unimproved values Instead, of rating on the capital value basis as at present. The Mayor Uid Steps had been taken to take-the poll, the toWh clerk, Mr P. O. Filches, stating that the requisite number of signatures had been secured for the petition for a poli to be held. • The audited balance-sheet for the year ended March ai, IMO, was received front the Audit Office and adopted. The town clerk reported the debit for the present year was £l7O. as Compared with £606 in the audited bal-ance-sheet just received. , The Mayor said as this was the last meeting before the elections, he hoped councillors would stand m election again, it was decided to write to cr. w. w, Williams, who wrote intimating that he was retiring, expressing appreciation of .hia services to the council over a long term of years.
